Earlier this year, Cam and DVD-screener versions of the latest in the Batman series already found their way onto the Internet, making this blockbuster the most pirated movie of 2008. The Dark Knight has been a huge success in theaters, grossing a billion dollars worldwide. The movie currently holds the record for the best opening week, and weekend, and later this year is expected to surpass ‘Titanic’ as the greatest grossing movie in history. This success is a truly remarkable accomplishment in times where piracy is rampant. As with every other blockbuster, ‘The Dark Knight’ was leaked onto the Internet in various formats. It began right after the premiere in July with a cammed version, which was celebrated by the folks from The Pirate Bay. The Cam was followed by a DVD-screener in early September. Although Hollywood did its best to prevent the movie from hitting BitTorrent, their efforts were not very successful. In July, just a few days after the film premiered, the police arrested a 40-year-old man who tried to record the movie with a camcorder. However, around the same time someone else had already put up a cammed version from another source. This week, in another round of leaks, DVD-rips of ‘The Dark Knight’ found their way to BitTorrent. Unsurprisingly, given the commercial success of the movie, these were downloaded well over a million times in just a few days. From the looks of it, Batman will crush Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Transformers, as it will easily become this year’s most pirated movie. First things first though. I"ve always liked it. But after serving some time in prison myself I see it very differently. This scene in particular, specifically when he is released and they show the gate and him leaving - I just broke down crying. It reminded me that they can walk you to the gate, open it up, and allow you to walk through it takes much more than that to leave prison. You don"t just leave prison. It has to leave you. It took me over two years before I stopped having dreams that I was inside still. The idea that Brooks would get out of prison and THEN kill himself was completely crazy to me when I first saw this, but suddenly made a lot more sense. It doesn"t even take that long to get that way. I cry now when I see him walk out that gate, not with sadness, but understanding. I always knew this movie was great - but never realized the attention to detail the performances had. That DGAF attitude Red has in the end is not a sign of strength, but of a broken spirit at peace with being broken - like a bizarro version of self actualization where hopelessness and misery is the premise of existence and you"ve become kind of okay with that in a zen sort of way.

“I wanna talk to him... ” Always tear up there. Take a good look on Morgan Freeman"s facial expression and the way he fidgets just after he enters the room. Brilliantly well done. What an actor. Bad Education is also the title of a Jack Whitehall comedy tv show. This is the polar opposite, I can"t help but think it"s an awful title, as the students all get a great education, and go on to great colleges and careers.
This has flew into a Top 3 movie of the year for me (behind The Gentlemen and Bad Boys 3) it is brilliant. After I watched it, I googled it, to see how much was true, and from what I read, it all was.
I didn"t know much about this movie going in, the trailer didn"t exactly grab me, and I kind of forgot about it. I love Hugh Jackman, though, I think he is a fantastic actor, who can sell me any movie. So when I seen it had been released, I watched it straight away.
In this movie Jackman plays a Superintendent of Roslyn School District. He is a great, beloved guy, always smiling, high giving the students, his door is always open to anyone. He knows everything about every student, past and present (even 15 years after they have left) he really takes an interest in them and encourages them to be their best. It is that encouragement that brings about an amazing turn of events.
Anchored by an outstanding Hugh Jackman, a serious argument could be made that this is his best ever performance! He is that good here! His charisma really sells this movie, especially early on. All the performances are great, there is not one weak link, Alison Janney, Ray Romano, Geraldine Viswanathan and Annaleigh Ashford really stand out though. It has a great script, is well directed has a good pace and there are some real life lessons in this movie too.
Given the state of the movie industry at the moment, and it maybe too early, but I think this could be an Oscar contender. Especially Jackman and Janney.
I highly recommend everyone watch this movie.
